2008 October > Halton Hills Municipal Awards Evening
The music of the Georgetown Pipe Band filled the Town of Halton Hills Council Chambers during the Municipal Awards Evening. The 37 members of the pipe and drum band led by Pipe Major Tracy Porter have been successful in many competitions and received their awards from Mayor Bonnette and Councillor Moya Johnson. Emily Boycott from the Oakville Butterflies carried a lot of gold - she was 5 time gold medalist at the 2007 World Special Olympic Summer Games in Shanghai, China and an Ambassador for Special Olympics. Other award recipients included The North Halton Golf & Country Club 2008 Bantam Boys Provincial Curling Team, Steven Macdonnell Music for Young Children Award of Excellence winner, Mackenzie Cameron of ASGI Flyers track and field, the Starlight Destiny Twirling Club and Sofia Troop of the Brampton Canadettes hockey team.
